How to Recover a Lost AOL Email

Losing AOL e-mail can be traumatic if the email contains important personal data. AOL allows you to recover recently deleted e-mails, however. The system keeps deleted messages for a 24-hour period. If you still need to recover the email after the 24-hour period, download and install e-mail data recovery software, which will search your hard drive and make the deleted e-mails available again.

Open your AOL e-mail account. Locate the “Recently Deleted” folder and click twice to open it. This folder is located in the left panel of the AOL window.

Look for the email you want to recover and place a check mark in the box next to the message by clicking on the small box. Click on the “Restore” button.

Return to your “Inbox” and look for the email you recovered.

Download and save one of the data recovery software programs like Data Recovery Pro, Ontrack Data Recovery or Get Data. Choose to save the program when prompted to save or run it.

Click the program icon twice to start the installation. Follow the manufacturer’s on-screen installation instructions.

Open the program after installing and have the program scan the computer for lost e-mail files. When it finishes, choose the AOL e-mail you need to restore from the list of recovered e-mails in the main program window. Double-click on the email you want to restore to open it. Choose to save it in your AOL Inbox, or in any folder you want.

Warning

Recovery software cannot recover unopened mails.
