An ab bench is an inclined plane used to work the muscles in the abdominal section of the body. While they are often found in gyms or professional home gym systems, there is a cheap and easy way to create an ab bench of your own. You can make a homemade ab bench comparable to a commercial one; because of the design, the bench can also be portable.
- Skill level:
Things you need
- 2-inch thick wood
- Table saw
Cut a plank of 2-inch thick wood with a table saw. Make the board 11 inches wide and 70 inches long.
Sand down all of the edges of the wood with sandpaper to eliminate any splinters or ragged sides.
Cut the pipe to 24 inches long. You can use any width as long as it fits comfortably in your hand when you grip it.
Lay the pipe along one of the 11-inch lengths so they are parallel. The pipe should be exactly along the edge of the wood, with equal amounts of pipe hanging over each edge.
Drive two nails into the pipe and through the wood with a hammer so the nails are evenly spaced. These nails will hold the pipe to the wood.
Turn the wood over and flatten out the point of the nails against the back of the wood. Use the hammer and bang the nails flat until they are smooth against the wood.
Tips and warnings
- You can adjust the width and length of the board if you need more or less space.
- Do not perform intense, high impact exercises if you have a weak heart.
