How to Connect a Sky TV to a Sony RDR-HXD870

Updated February 21, 2017

The Sony RDR-HXD870 is a DVD player/recorder with a built-in hard drive. This device connects directly between a television source and a TV, allowing you to record programming and burn the material onto a DVD. This DVD player/recorder functions with most all cable providers, including Sky TV, based out of the United Kingdom.

Insert the first set of component cables into the "Component Out" ports on the Sky TV receiver. Insert the other ends of the cables into the "Component In" ports on the Sony RDR-HXD870.

Plug the RCA audio cables into the "Audio Out" ports on the Sky TV receiver. Connect the opposite ends of the cables into the "Audio In" ports on the Sony RDR-HXD870.

Connect the second set of component cables into the "Component Out" ports on the Sony DVD player/recorder. Plug the other ends into the "Component In" ports on the TV.

Attach the second set of RCA audio cables into the "Audio Out" ports on the Sony player, then connect the other ends into the "Audio In" ports on the television.

Power on the television, the Sky TV receiver and the Sony RDR-HXD870. The programming from the cable receiver now runs through the Sony DVD player/recorder into the television.
