How to Finalize a Nero DVD Disk

Updated July 20, 2017

Nero Burning Suite is a selection of applications designed around the Nero Burning ROM program. Nero Burning ROM allows you to create, author, and burn CDs, DVDs, and now Blu-ray discs. Nero Burning ROM is regarded as one of the best disc-authoring applications you can use as it features the ability to burn almost any type of disc. If you have burnt a movie to DVD with Nero but it isn't recognised in many drives or standalone DVD players, you will need to finalise the disc. Finalising a disc closes the disc from further edits and writing. Depending on how the disc was burnt you might be able to finalise the disc after it has been burnt; otherwise you will have to use a new disc.

Click "Start," then "All Programs," then "Nero," and then "Nero Burning ROM" to launch the application.

Click "DVD" from the drop-down menu in the "New Compilation" menu and then select the type of disc that you burnt before. Click the tick box next to "Finalize," then click "New."

Insert your DVD that you have already burnt and click "Recorder," then "Burn Compilation." Make sure that "Finalize" is checked and all other options unchecked and click "Burn." If your disc is successful it will now be finalised and ready for use. If it fails, you will need to burn another DVD using the same data. Make sure that "Finalize Disc" is checked at the beginning and end of the disc-burning session.
