How to Compare Laptops by Weight
Knowing the weight of laptops is important when purchasing them. (3 laptops image by Andrew Brown from

One of the most vital pieces of information consumers look for when purchasing a new laptop is the weight. Since consumers purchase laptops for their portability, if you buy a laptop that's too heavy, your back may eventually ache from having to lug the heavy object around wherever you go. It is important to compare the weights of various laptops before deciding which one to purchase.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Utilise a website that compares various aspects of laptops. (There are a few options in the Resources section below.) These sites will allow you to compare the various specifications regarding laptops, including weight.

  2. 2

Type in the name and version of the laptop in which you are interested into the search bar of the electronics website. Press "Enter" to begin your search. After the site's search engine brings up a list of laptops that match, click the one that matches your search criteria. This will take you to the specifications page for the laptop.

  3. 3

Locate the listing for the laptop's weight. It will be listed alongside other specifications such as memory, processor speed, screen size and graphics card. Write down the weight on a piece of paper next to the name of the laptop.

  4. 4

Continue searching various websites, repeating Steps 1 to 3, until you feel you've reached the end of your research. Consult your piece of paper to compare the various laptops by weight.

  5. 5

Travel to an electronics store and actually feel the weight of the laptop in your hands. This is the only way to understand the heaviness of your choice of laptop. Consider carefully, because you'll be lugging it around in your briefcase or computer carrying case. If it is not the weight for which you are looking, feel free to continue with your search.
