When using your HP DeskJet 1280, you may receive an "out of paper" printer error or your printer may refuse to pick up paper from the feed tray. You can reset the HP printer hardware within a matter of seconds to solve this problem.

    Turn on the printer using the power button. Ensure that the light comes on and that paper is correctly loaded into the feed tray.

    Unplug the AC power supply from the rear of the printer while the DeskJet 1280 is still on. Wait about 10 seconds to allow the current to discharge from the AC adaptor then unplug the AC power supply from the wall. Wait 15 to 30 seconds. This allows the printer hardware to softly reset.

    Insert the AC power supply back into the rear of the printer. Insert the AC power supply back into a wall outlet.

    Turn the printer back on by pressing the power button once.

Tips and warnings

  • If the hardware reset does not resolve the printer errors that you are getting, ensure that the paper in the feed tray is not in damaged condition and update the printer drivers.
