Recording TV shows to a TiVo box means that your TV shows adapt to your schedule, not the other way around. But if you're sharing a TiVo with a roommate or family member, the TiVo might not be available when you want to watch your shows. If you have a PlayStation 3, you can copy recorded TiVo shows to its hard drive and watch them from there.

Things you need
- Home network
- TiVo Desktop Software
Connect your TiVo to your home network. The simplest way is to run an Ethernet cable between your TiVo and your network's router. Most TiVo models have an Ethernet port on the rear face.
Download and install the "TiVo Desktop" software (see Resources). Install the software.
Open Tivo Desktop and click the "Pick Recordings to Transfer" button at the top right-hand side of the window. This brings up a list of shows and recordings stored on your TiVo.
Check the box beside the recordings you want to transfer. Click the "Start Transfer" button. This copies the files from your TiVo to the "My TiVo Recordings" folder on your hard drive. The default location for this folder is "C:\Users[your user name]\Documents\My TiVo Recordings."
Download Windows Media Player, if not already installed on your system (see Resources). Double-click the installer when the download completes and follow the on-screen instructions provided by the installer.
Open Windows Media Player. Click on "Start," then "All Programs," then "Windows Media Player."
Click the "Switch to Library" button. Click "Organize," then "Manage Libraries," then "Recorded TV Library Locations." Find the folder from step 4 in the list of folders and click "Include Folder."
Open "Network Settings" from the "Settings" column of your PS3. Choose "Media Server Connection." Select "Enable."
Click on "Tools" in Windows Media Player, then "Options," then "Library." Click "Configure Sharing" and select your PS3 from the list of devices. Click "Allow."
Restart your PS3.
Select the "Windows Media Player" icon from the "Video" column of the PS3's main menu. The PS3 will display the files and folders you added to the Windows Media Player library.
Highlight the TiVo show or folder you want to transfer and press the "Triangle" button. Select "Copy" from the menu that pops up on the right side of the screen and select a destination for the videos. Windows Media Player will copy the videos over the network to your PS3 in a playable format.
Tips and warnings
- If your TiVo is not close enough to your router to use an ethernet cable, connect over Wi-Fi (see Resources).
- Your PC and PS3 must be connected to the same home network as your TiVo.
- TiVo recordings marked with a red circle with a slash through it can't be copied to your PC.
