Roller blinds function with a roller and spring and after awhile the mechanism can cease to work properly. These blinds come in a variety of materials such as fabric and bamboo. Fixing the blinds can be a more economical than purchase a new unit. It is possible to repair these blinds with a few tools rather than hiring a professional to complete the job.
Hand roll the blinds up to the top and lift the blinds from the brackets above the wall if the spring is too tight and the blinds are hard to lift up and down. Set the blinds back in the brackets on the wall. Repeat this procedure until the blinds are operating correctly.
Tighten spring tension by lowering the blinds halfway with the pull cord and lift the blinds out of the brackets. Hand roll the blinds all the way to the top. Place the blinds back in the wall and repeat this method until the spring tension seems correct.
Release the spring if the blinds will not lift or lower. Lift the blinds out of the brackets on the wall. Locate the pin in the side of the roller. Unlock the pin by twisting it clockwise with pliers. Repeat these steps until the procedure works.
Replace the blind fabric if necessary. Remove the blinds by lifting them out of the brackets. Unroll the fabric with your hands. Cut the old fabric off the roller with scissors. Lay new fabric on the roller and make sure it is straight. Check it with a straight edge such as a measuring tape. Secure the fabric to the roller with staples. Install the blinds on the brackets on the wall.
Replace the spring if these steps do not work in loosening or tightening the spring.
