How to Hook Curtains
Use drapery hooks to hang curtains. (window image by The Blowfish Inc from

Using drapery hooks to hang your curtains helps them slide easily across your window, with little or no effort on your part. Make sure the hooks you're using, as well as the rod, are sturdy enough to support the weight of your curtain. If you don't wish to use a typical traverse rod with sliders built in, you can slip drapery rings onto your standard curtain rod. On the underside of each ring is a eye for a hook to go through.

  1. 1

Make sure you have as many curtain hooks as your rod does sliders or drapery rings.

  2. 2

Locate the seam under the pocket of fabric running across top of your curtain (just below the folded seam through which, if you wish, you could slide a standard curtain rod), and place the curtain seam-side-up on a flat surface.

  3. 3

Push the sharp, pinpoint end of your first curtain hook through the fabric very near one end of your curtain, piercing the curtain's seam and sliding the pin into the curtain's pocket. The hook should appear to be coming out of the seam.

  4. 4

Repeat the previous step with each remaining hook, spacing them evenly apart across the pocket top of your curtain until you insert the final hook near the opposite end.

  5. 5

Attach the interested drapery hooks to the slides on your traverse rod or through the eyes of your drapery rings, making sure that the curtain's seam is facing the window and that the first slide or ring is attached to the corresponding first curtain hook.

  6. 6

Slide your curtains open and closed with almost no effort.
