Use a lotion without any unnecessary additives. Try using 100 per cent shea or cocoa butter. You should be able to find these at your local drug or health food store. If you have cold cream, you can use this as well.
Place a small portion of the lotion or cream into an opaque or darkly coloured container. Find a container with a lid so you can seal the cream and use it for the next few days. Light will cause the vitamin C to oxidise faster, so store the finished cream in a cool, dark place.
Dissolve 1/2 teaspoon of L-ascorbic acid powder in 3 1/2 teaspoons of warm, distilled water. Mix thoroughly until no granules remain.
Mix the water solution into the lotion. When you begin using the vitamin C cream, start with smaller proportions of vitamin C to lotion. As your skin becomes accustomed to the cream, you can slowly increase the dosage.
Use the cream within a few days. L-ascorbic acid is highly unstable and will begin to oxidise relatively quickly. The cream is not dangerous once the vitamin C has oxidised; it is just ineffective. If the cream begins to turn yellow, the vitamin C has oxidised. Make small batches of the cream every few days instead of one big batch.
