How to Use Honey as Wax for Hair Removal
Make homemade hair-removal wax with honey. (honey image by Maria Brzostowska from

Ready-made honey waxes are available at chemists and beauty supply stores, but you can make your own wax at home using regular honey and a few other common ingredients. While honey wax will remove hair, it must be kept at the proper temperature to remove the hair effectively. Cold honey will create a sticky mess on your skin that is difficult to remove, while hot honey could cause burns or skin irritation.

  1. 1

Combine 1 cup honey and 1 cup white sugar in a small electric cooking pot. Cut a fresh lemon in half and squeeze the juice from one half over the mixture.

  2. 2

Plug the electric cooking pot into the electrical socket and set it to the low cook temperature. Cook the mixture with the lid on for approximately two hours. The honey will become thin and the mixture will be easy to stir with a flat wooden stick.

  3. 3

Leave the electric cooking pot turned on, but remove the lid for 5 to 10 minutes before you begin waxing. This will allow the wax to cool down enough, so it will not cause burns or discomfort when you spread it onto your skin.

  4. 4

Dip a flat wooden stick into the honey wax and scoop up some of the wax. Touch the wax carefully with the tip of your finger to make sure that it is cool enough to use.

  5. 5

Spread the honey wax onto your skin where you would like to remove hair in a 2-inch wide by 4-inch long strip.

  6. 6

Press a strip of cotton fabric larger than the wax strip onto the warm honey wax immediately. Smooth the cotton strip down by rubbing it firmly with your hand three or four times.

  7. 7

Hold the skin around the strip taunt with one hand. Use the other hand to grasp one edge of the cotton strip and quickly pull it off in the opposite direction of the hair growth. Keep your hand as close to the skin as possible when pulling the strip off. If you pull the strip out and away from your body, you probably will not remove any hair, but you will cause yourself pain.

  8. 8

Continue to apply and remove the wax until all of the unwanted hair has been eliminated. Wash the skin gently with warm water to remove leftover wax, but avoid using soap or lotions that may irritate your freshly waxed skin.
