The IBM ThinkPad but still laptop is a computer that emphasises portability. Running around with a lap top on your person can sometimes cause security risks to the the device or unintended mistakes, like keystrokes or battery drain, so the ThinkPad enables a lock function to ignore typing or button pressing, keeping files safe and preventing accidental use. Search the keyboard to find the Fn key at the lower left. Place a finger on this key.
Find the F2 key at the upper left of the keyboard, in the top row. Place a finger on this key.
Press down on each key at the same time. A window will appear on the screen. Using the mouse pad or arrow keys select the "Lock" tab. Now release your fingers from the keyboard. It is now unlocked.
Tips and warnings
- Another way to unlock the ThinkPad is to simply turn it off and turn it back on, or by removing and reinserting the battery. But without stopping programs or the laptop's operating system this could cause damage, making using the Fn and F2 keys the longer, but safer way to unlock the ThinkPad. Also ThinkPads are now owned by Lenovo but the process is still the same.
