How to Steam Clean Granite

Updated February 21, 2017

Granite is a hard stone and often used for countertops and floors because it is durable as well as aesthetically pleasing. An effective way to clean your granite floors and countertops is with a steam cleaner. Steam cleaners heat tap water in order to deep clean and disinfect. Because you do not need to use any chemical cleaners with a steam cleaner, it is a green way to clean.

Clear the floor or countertop of any items or furniture. Wipe or sweep the surface to clear away dust, dirt and debris.

Fill the steam cleaner tank with clean water in accordance with the manufacturer instructions. Do not add any cleaning products to the water. The hot water and pressure from the cleaner is sufficient for cleaning and disinfecting the granite.

Choose the proper attachment and volume setting. Steam cleaners often come with different attachments. The manufacturer instructions recommend which attachment and settings to use for different cleaning jobs. Countertops usually use a smaller attachment and floors require a medium to large sized attachment.

Turn on the steam cleaner and work your way slowly across the floor or countertop. Depending on the type of attachment you are using, you might need to wipe the surface with a towel to dry it.

The steam is extremely hot. Keep the attachment and nozzle directed away from you at all times.
