Microsoft PowerPoint is a computer program that allows users to make virtual presentations by creating customisable slideshows. PowerPoint is equipped with countless features, such as the ability to add timed transitions. Using this type of animation, users can create a countdown timer. This can give your presentation a unique introduction or help illustrate a point as your slideshow counts down the seconds.

Open a blank PowerPoint presentation.
Add in as many slides to your presentation as there are seconds in your countdown timer. For instance, if there are five seconds in your countdown timer, insert five slides. Make sure each slide is the same layout. Insert a slide by clicking the "New Slide" button under the "Home" tab.
Go to the first slide in your presentation and type in the starting second in your countdown timer.
Go to the next slide in your presentation and type in the next second of your countdown timer. Make sure you type it in the same spot of the slide as in the previous slide. Repeat this process for the remaining slides until each is numbered.
Click the "Animations" tab and locate the "Slide Transitions" area.
Go to the first slide in your slide show and choose your desired slide transition from the "Slide Transitions" group. Preview the slide transitions by holding your mouse over each slide transition icon. These slide transitions will appear between each new slide, so choose one that will not interrupt the countdown timer's flow.
Locate the "Advance Slide" section of the "Slide Transition" group and click the check box next to "Automatically after." Set the time to one second.
Click "Apply to All" to apply this transition to each slide. Play your presentation and watch as it counts down.
