Open your Internet browser, whether Firefox, Explorer, Chrome or Netscape, and access the Skype home page at skype.com.
Click on the "Download" tab on the toolbar at the top of the page if it is not already selected. Select the green button at the top of the page that reads "Download Skype Now."
Click "Save File" on the prompt box that appears on your screen. If a box does not appear, click the "Restart Download" arrow text at the head of the page. You will need at least Windows 2000 to download Skype Messenger.
Open the downloaded file titled "Skype Setup.exe" in the download application box that will appear on your screen, or open the file wherever you saved it to.
Follow each step in the instalment wizard, beginning with selecting that you agree to the terms and are ready to install. Press "I Agree--Install" to begin the application.
Open Skype via the desktop icon or other location where you saved it and set up your account.
Follow step 1 in section 1 and close out any previous versions of Skype.
Click on the "Download" tab on the toolbar at the top of the page if it is not already selected and choose "Mac OS" on the operating systems menu bar located at the right-hand side of the page. Skype should automatically recognise that you are on a Mac, but if it does not, you must select it automatically. Next, click the green "Download Skype Now" button at the top of the page.
Open the downloads window in your Internet browser and click on the Skype icon or file title within. Press "Continue" if a warning prompt box appears.
Click on the Skype icon that appears on the screen and drag it into your "Applications" folder. At this time, if there is already an alternate version of Skype on your computer, a prompt box will appear asking you whether or not you wish to replace it, so click "Replace."
Access Skype through your "Applications" folder after the download is complete.
