How to Convert Feet to Meters in Excel

Updated February 21, 2017

Meter stands for a unit of length in the International System of Units (SI). Other units, for instance feet or yards, are widely used for length measurement in the United States. The Microsoft Excel program has convenient tools to present, calculate and plot data entered into cells within a spreadsheet. You can easily use a formula to convert those units on the Excel spreadsheet from feet to meters.

Open Microsoft Excel.

Click on the cell “A1” in the worksheet and press the key “=” on the keyboard.

Type the following formula “B1*0.3048” and press “Enter.” The number "0.3048" is the conversion factor between feet and meters.

Enter any distance (in feet) in the cell "B1" and press "Enter." For example, type the value "34.5."

Read the value in meters in the cell "A1." In the example with 34.5 feet, you will get the value of 10.5156.

Press "Ctrl" and "S" on the keyboard to save the Excel spreadsheet to use in the future.
