If you use your computer to watch videos, you don't want it to run slowly. While there isn't one single way to play videos faster on your computer, you can take steps to ensure an interruption-free video play.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Update your video adaptor. Hit the Start button and select "Control Panel." Double-click on "System." Click on the "Hardware" tab and select "Device Manager."

Click on the little plus sign to expand "Display Adapters." Right-click on your display adaptor and select "Update Driver Software..."

  2. 2

Use a wired connection if you watch your videos online. Use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer to a modem/router. This will enhance your Internet speed, boosting your video speed and preventing it from buffering every few seconds.

  3. 3

Turn off the firewall for the program you use to watch videos, like Windows Media Player, Winamp or Windows Media Center. Hit the Start button and select "Control Panel." Click on "Windows Firewall" and select "Allow a Program Through Windows Firewall." Put a check mark next to the program that you use to play videos. Hit "Apply."

  4. 4

Consider upgrading your display adaptor if your computer is more than 7 years old. Contact your manufacturer to make sure you purchase the right kind. You may want to take your computer to an authorised dealer/electronic store to install the new display adaptor.
