Internet Explorer 64-bit, as opposed to its 32-bit counterpart, is a modern web browser released by Microsoft. 64-bit software can take advantage of modern computer hardware, potentially operating at faster speeds while taking up less memory. Unfortunately, as with many other new software programs, IE 64-bit can encounter compatibility issues with certain websites or computers.

    Quit Internet Explorer 64-bit if it's currently open.

    Access the Start Menu and navigate to the Control Panel.

    Click “Add or Remove Programs.” This window displays every program you have installed on your system.

    Scroll through this list to find Internet Explorer 64-bit. Click the program once to highlight it, then click “Remove.”

Tips and warnings

  • Before you uninstall your Internet browser, make sure you have a different Internet browser to replace it. This might be Internet Explorer 32-bit, Firefox or a number of other browsers. Otherwise, after your download, you'll be left with no way to browse the Internet.
