You can quickly clean the plastic lens on a car speedometer using common household products. While there are scores of auto cleaning and detailing products on the market for cleaning a car's interior, and many of them will provide a good shine, virtually every product on the market is also a magnet for dust. The plastic lens on a speedometer cleans up quickly with a little elbow grease and rubbing alcohol.

Things you need

  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Clean microfiber cloth
  • Cotton swabs such as Q-tips
  • Handheld vacuum cleaner

    Remove loose dirt and dust from around the lens with a handheld vacuum.

    Pour a teaspoon of isopropyl alcohol onto a microfiber cloth.

    Rub the surface of the speedometer lens with the microfiber cloth to clean away grime and dirt.

    Dip a cotton swab in the alcohol and clean the crevices of the speedometer lens where it is attached to the dashboard.

    Wipe the lens dry with a clean microfiber cloth.
