Your ceiling fan cover is a grill that filters the air going through the bathroom ceiling fan. Moist air invites dust to cling and build-up on the grill, which over time will make the ceiling exhaust fan work harder. You can remove the grill on the bathroom ceiling fan and either clean the grill or replace the grill with a new one You will not need any tools to remove the grill because the grill secures to the ceiling fan housing with clips.

  1. 1

Grab the side edges of the bathroom ceiling fan grill with your fingers. Pull the grill down until the retaining clips engage. The grill will only come 1 inch down away from the ceiling. If necessary, use a step stool so that you can reach the grill.

  2. 2

Locate the two spring clips that secure the grill to the ceiling fan housing. There is one spring clip on each side of the grill. The spring clip has two sides that spread into the fan housing to keep the grill from falling.

  3. 3

Press the sides of each spring clip together with your fingers and pull the spring clips away from the fan housing. The grill will come down with the spring clips.

Tips and warnings

  • Replacement grills are available at home improvement centres. Take the old grill with you to ensure you purchase a replacement that is the same size.
