How to Remove Paint Thinner Odor From Clothing

White spirit, or paint thinner as it is commonly called, is a type of solvent made from petroleum distillate. It is used to thin oil-based paints and also functions as an effective cleaning agent in certain situations. Unfortunately, it has a potent, gasoline-type smell that can be hard to get rid of especially when it finds its way onto clothing.

  • Measuring cup
  • Baking soda
  • Large bowl
  • Vinegar

Instructions

    Place the clothing in a large bowl or pan of warm water. Add 1/2 cup of baking soda and let the clothing soak for fifteen minutes.

    Place the shirt in the clothes washer. Add another 1/2 cup of baking soda and run the clothing through a washing cycle.

  3. 3

    Repeat Step 1, except use 1 tsp of vinegar instead of baking soda. Skip this step if you were able to remove the paint thinner odour in steps one and two.
