The Autofill feature on your iPod automatically adds music, videos and photos to your iPod whenever you connect it to your computer. During the synchronisation process, your iPod and iTunes update with new changes to your content, which ensures that information on both devices is the same. If you would like to manage your iPod yourself, you can turn off Autofill through iTunes. Once turned off, you will need to manually add music to your iPod.

- iTunes 7 or later
- iPod USB or firewire cable
Open iTunes on your computer.
Plug the wide, flat end of the USB cable into the bottom of the iPod, and plug the other end of the cable into a USB port on your computer.
Click the "iPod" tab under the Devices section in the iTunes sidebar. Click the "Summary" tab in the main iTunes window.
Check the box next to "Manually manage music and videos." Click the "Apply" button in the lower-right corner of the iTunes window to save the changes.
Click the "Eject" icon next to the iPod tab in the iTunes sidebar to disconnect the device from your computer.
