Hi8 video is recorded onto a cassette tape and so is not compatible with being played on a computer or a mobile device like an iPod. Converting the Hi8 video to a digital video file can be done on an iMac by using a video-to-digital converter that is designed to work with the Macintosh OS X operating system. The video-to-digital converter attaches externally though cables and so neither the Hi8 camcorder or the iMac is physically changed. Converting a Hi8 video to a digital video file will let the video be viewed on the iMac and other devices.
