How to Get Rid of Water Stains on Wood Tables

Updated February 21, 2017

From spilt glasses of water to forgetting to use a coaster, water stains can easily find their way onto wood tables leaving behind an unpleasant and highly noticeable stain. These ugly stains can detract from the wood's natural beauty if not taken care of promptly. An ingredient you may already have in your refrigerator is an effective tool for restoring your table to its previous stain-free beauty.

Blot the area with a clean, absorbent cloth to remove any moisture if the stain is fresh.

Scoop up some mayonnaise with a clean, dry cloth.

Rub the mayonnaise into the stain leaving a thick layer of mayonnaise on the stain.

Allow the mayonnaise to remain on the stain overnight.

Wipe away the residual mayonnaise in the morning.

Polish the area with a wood furniture polish and a soft cloth to restore the wood's shine.

Mixing cigarette ashes into the mayonnaise can increase its effectiveness, but isn't necessary.
