The Xbox 360 was the first high definition gaming console on the market, beating the PlayStation 3 to store shelves by more than a year. High definition gaming offers a new level of detail, giving crisp visuals to all games displayed on a high def screen. In order to connect your Xbox 360 to a high definition television properly, you'll need the appropriate high definition cables. Luckily, Microsoft offers a variety of different cables to fit multiple different outputs on your television.

Instructions

  1. 1

Select the best cable to connect to your high definition television. In most instances, an Xbox 360 component AV cable will connect to your high definition television. If not, Microsoft also offers VGA HD and HDMI cables. VGA and HDMI connections typically offer sharper images. Check the outputs on the back of your television to determine which cable(s) you can use.

  2. 2

Insert the Xbox 360 input of the cable into the Xbox 360's audio video output on the back of the console.

  3. 3

Connect the other end to your television. Component cables have five plug-ins colour coded to connect to the appropriate outputs. A VGA cable simply plugs into the VGA output and has two additional red and white audio inputs that plug into the television's corresponding audio outputs. An HDMI cable plugs straight into the HDMI output on the television.

  4. 4

Turn on your television and change the video input to the appropriate VGA, component or HDMI setting.
