Stencils are a versatile way to spruce up your home. You can use them to add borders, customise messages and add flare to bedroom walls. You can even use them on craft projects to ensure lines are perfect. Stencils come in thousands of shapes, patterns, sizes and themes. However, sometimes it's difficult to find a stencil in the size or font to suit your needs. No worries. Stencils are easy to make online

Skill level:

    Decorative Stencils

  1. 1

Choose the Yankee Stencil Company link from the "References" section. Scroll to the bottom of the page where there is a custom stencil sample.

  2. 2

Type your message into the dialogue boxes marked "First line" and "Optional Second Line."

  3. 3

Choose a font by clicking on "View all fonts." Pick your favourite font and select it by choosing its corresponding number in the font drop-down box.

  4. 4

Choose a flourish---a small decoration appearing before and after your messages--- by clicking "View all flourishes." Choose a flourish as you did a font.

  5. 5

Choose a place for your flourish by using the "Flourish Location" dialogue boxes. You will have the option to place the flourishes before and after any word in your message.

  6. 6

Change the size of your font using the "Select Size" dialogue box. Small fonts are best for above shelves and in small rooms. Larger fonts are better for over beds and on kitchen walls.

  7. 7

Click the "Preview" button to view your stencil. Make any necessary adjustments and click "Add to Cart" to purchase the stencil.

    Pumpkin Carving Stencil

  1. 1

Choose Virtual Carve-A-Pumpkin from the "Resources" section. Click the "Get Started" button in the bottom right corner. Make an account. Add your information and choose a password, typing them into the appropriate boxes. After that, you can log in any time.

  2. 2

Click the "Get Started" button again. A screen showing several pumpkin options on the right will appear. Choose your pumpkin by clicking on the one you like best. Since you'll be printing the stencil for a real pumpkin, it doesn't matter which pumpkin you choose.

  3. 3

Click the "Next" button. A screen showing facial features on the right will appear, with your pumpkin in the centre. Scroll through the facial features by clicking the orange arrows to the right and left of each option.

  4. 4

Click the features you like best and drag them to your pumpkin. The features will "stick" to the pumpkin. Play with the features until you have a combination you like.

  5. 5

Click the "Next" button, then the "Preview" button when you are finished. To print a stencil, click the "Print Stencil" button in the upper right of the screen.
