Converting a DVD to an MP4 file can actually be a little tricky, but with the help of DVD Decrypter and PS3 Video 9, this process becomes very simple and straight forward. The name can be a little confusing if you are not using it to play on a PS3, but all it does is create a generic MP4 file that can be used in any compatible device.

Instructions

    Copy DVD File Onto Computer

  1. 1

Download and install DVD Decrypter. Insert your DVD into your computer's disc drive. Open the program you just installed. In the top menu select "Mode," then choose "IFO I" mode.

  2. 2

Go to "Tools" on the top menu and select "Settings." Under "IFO Mode," change the file splitting to "None." Press "OK."

  3. 3

Select "Stream Processing" on the main screen and only select the first video file. This will be located at the top of the list and is the main movie on the DVD you are copying to your computer.

  4. 4

Click the "Browse" button and select a place on your computer where you would like to save the movie file to. Click the "Decrypt" button and your movie will be copied to your computer where you selected. This will take around 20 minutes to complete.

    Convert to MP4

  1. 1

Download and install Red Kawa PS3 Video Converter. Next you need to open the video converter program you just installed. Here it will ask you which firmware you are running on the PS3, but since it does not matter, just select the most recent one.

  2. 2

Select "Video File" when you are presented with the home menu screen. Next, select "Convert New File," which will be on the lower right side of the screen. You will have the option to select either normal mode or power mode. Select "Normal Mode."

  3. 3

Click "Select File" and choose the file you just created with DVD Decrypter. On the next screen, you will have to choose where you want to save the new MP4 file and what it should be named. Do so accordingly.

  4. 4

Select the proper settings on the next screen. The better the quality you make it, the larger the file will be and the longer it will take to convert. This really depends on the size of the screen you are watching the file on. A bigger screen needs better quality, so choose "Enhance Video" and "Best" under video/audio quality.

  5. 5

Select "Convert File" and your movie will be converted to an MP4. This will take a rather long time as the entire file needs to be taken apart and pieces back together.
