How to prevent or cause broken capillaries on the face
Broken capillaries can be caused by sun damage. (

Broken capillaries on the face can be unsightly and embarrassing. The condition may be triggered by a genetic predisposition, but there are some things you can do to protect your skin from further damage. See a dermatologist for more information about ways to heal and protect your skin.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

  1. 1

Avoid sun exposure and excessive heat and cold as much as possible, as these conditions may contribute to broken capillaries. Use a sun screen with an SPF of at least 30 whenever you go outdoors. Try to stay away from extremely spicy foods, alcohol, and hot drinks like tea or coffee. These might cause the tiny capillaries just under your skin to break.

  2. 2

Call a dermatologist to find out more about the causes of your broken capillaries. He may wish to treat your skin with a high-beam laser, which can remove the blemishes. He may also prescribe a vitamin C cream or other over-the-counter medications to help you shrink the size of your vessels and prevent further damage.

  3. 3

Mix chamomile or rose oil into a facial moisturising cream to help prevent further damage to your facial capillaries. Improve your circulation by drinking chamomile tea. This might also help to reduce broken capillaries.

  4. 4

Exercise at least 20 minutes a day to increase your blood circulation and ensure your capillaries are not overworked trying to pump blood to your face. Be sure not to strain when you are working out, as pushing yourself too hard can actually cause tiny blood vessels to break. Moderate exercise might include walking or jogging on the treadmill, swimming in an indoor pool, low-impact aerobic exercise, stretching, or light sports activities. Avoid strenuous outdoor sports that cause you to sweat excessively or become red in the face.

  5. 5

Eat a well-balanced diet with plenty of vitamins and fibre. Eating a diet high in fibre will allow you to have comfortable bowel movements that require no straining--another cause of broken capillaries. Eat legumes and fruits to help improve your circulation, and avoid fatty or salty foods, which can slow your circulation and cause further vessel breaks.
