Bollywood is the name for India's prolific Hindi-speaking movie industry that's based in Mumbai. It combines Bombay, the former name of the city of Mumbai, and Hollywood, the home of America's film industry. Bollywood movies are known for their elaborate settings, songs and dances. Bollywood movies and stars often set the trends for music and fashion in India. You can dress like a Bollywood star to lend some Indian style to your wardrobe or an Indian touch to any party or event.

Wear a high-quality single colour button-down shirt. For a more casual look, wear a single colour T-shirt and a desert scarf loosely tied around the neck.

  4. 4

Wear some gel in your hair.

  1. 1

Put on a sari blouse called a choli and a sari petticoat. A sari is shaped like a rectangular piece of fabric. Take one end of the sari and tuck it in all around the waistband of the petticoat. It should form an overskirt. Take the opposite end of the sari and fold it into five sections. Drape it over your left shoulder until the end of the fabric reaches the back of your knee, then take the excess fabric around your torso and wrap it around your petticoat. On the left front side, create five tiny folds in the fabric that will serve as temporary pleats. Tuck the edges of the fabric into the waistband.

  2. 2

Put bangles on both your wrists. Wear dangly earrings as well as an anklet on one of your ankles.

  3. 3

Wear a bindi, which is a small decorative jewel you can apply like a sticker to your third eye area -- slightly above the area between your eyebrows.

  4. 4

Wear a pair of nice sandals.

  5. 5

    Wear your long hair down.

Tips and warnings

  • For a more traditional male look, men can opt for wearing a kurta pyjamas set. It's traditional Indian men's wear and consists of a collared tunic and a pair of loose trousers.
  • For a more modern female look, women can opt for a sheath dress, gold jewellery and high heels.
