Open Photoshop. Create a new document by clicking "File" and then clicking "New."
Change the width of the image to 100 mm (4 inches) and the height to 150 mm (6 inches). The resolution of the image should be about 300 pixels/inch. Title your image if desired. Click "OK."
Select a background colour. The colour of the invitation should match your wedding colour scheme. The colour should be neutral, like a light pastel or a white. The invitation will be difficult to read with dark or bright colours like red or black. Use the paint bucket tool and click on your canvas to colour your background.
Add a border to your invitation by using the square marquee tool. It looks like a dotted line square on the toolbar. Start from the corner of the image and draw a border, being sure to keep the margins the same distance apart from the edges.
Click Select from the top menu. Click on "Inverse." There should now be a marquee border on your image. Choose a colour to paint your border. Click inside of the moving dotted lines to paint your border on the invitation. Click "Select" from the menu and then choose "Deselect."
Place the images on your invitation (if this applies to you). Do this by opening the image in a new file, copying it with the marquee tool, holding CTRL-C on your keyboard, and then pasting it to the invitation file by pressing CTRL-V. Drag the image where you want it on your invitation.
Select a font that for your invitation. For formal weddings, fonts like Vivaldi or Freestyle Script work well. For more casual weddings, try a font like Georgia or Cataneo BT. Add all of the text to your invitation. For samples of wedding invitations, check out Wedding Paper Divas (see References).
Save your image as a PNG file and put it onto a memory card or a USB stick. Take the USB stick or memory card to your local office supplies store and have them print the invitations out for you. Choose which kind of paper you would like to use.
