Scratch cards are fun for people of all ages, whether you're a 5-year-old hoping for a free dessert from McDonald's or a 50-year-old hoping to cash in on the lottery grand prize. Scratch surfaces can be fun, even addicting, and are great methods of raising money through raffles and contests, or generating business through direct mail advertisements. Whatever your reason, creating scratch cards can be easy and fun.

  1. 1

Select a size for your scratch card. If you are creating one for direct mailing, a 3x5 or 4x6 card is probably best. For handouts, 1.5x3 or similar size works best.

  2. 2

Design your scratch card. Provide spaces for your prizes, over which you will place your scratch-off stickers. Use a design program such as Adobe InDesign or Microsoft Printshop. Make sure an explanation of the game and rules appear somewhere on the card.

  3. 3

Determine prizes and put correlating symbols on the scratch card. Make sure you have chosen the right proportions for your prizes (i.e., if you only have three luxury cars to give away, don't print more than three cards with luxury car prizes).

  4. 4

Print the cards on card stock. Cut with scissors if necessary.

  5. 5

Place scratch-off stickers on cards, positioning the stickers over the prizes. These stickers can be found at online speciality stores or at some craft shops such as Hobby Lobby. Your scratch cards are now ready to be played.

Tips and warnings

  • Purchase your scratch stickers before designing the cards so you know the shape and size of your promotional areas.
