A naturalisation certificate is given to a person who was born outside of the United States, but has legally entered the country and has successfully completed the process that allows him to become a United States citizen. A naturalisation certificate is needed by immigrants to show proof of residency. It is used in many of the same ways a birth certificate is used by a person who was born in the United States.

Print and fill out form N-565. This is the application needed to apply for a replacement certificate. The application should be sent to either the service centre in Texas or Nebraska, depending on where the applicant lives. The general rule is if a person lives if in the eastern part of the United States, the application should be sent to the Nebraska service centre. If the applicant lives in the western part of the country, the application should be sent to the Texas centre. The list of states and the address to which the applications should be sent is included at the bottom of the N-565 form (see Resources).
Provide required evidence. If a person is applying to replace a damaged document, the damaged document should be included with the application. If applying for a new document because of a name change, submit the original USCIS document as well as a copy of the marriage certificate that shows the name change.
Include two identical colour photos of yourself that have been taken within 30 days of the application date. The photos should include a white or off-white background. They should be 2 by 2 inches. They must show the full face of the applicant and the height from the head to the chin should be between 1 and 1-3/8 inches. With a pencil, lightly write your name and alien receipt number on the back of each photo.
Include a payment for £247. Full payment must be made with either a check from the United States bank or with a money order. No fee is needed if block 2d in part 2 of the application form is checked.
Place the application and documents in a large envelope and mail the application to either the Texas Service Station or the Nebraska Service Station.
Await an answer. Either an applicant will get a new certificate in the mail within a few weeks or an applicant will receive a request for more supplemental information. If the application is not filled out correctly, it will be sent back for proper completion.
