The Ekrn.exe file is a legitimate program that is part of the ESET NOD32 antivirus software. It is a signed file---not a Windows system file---that sends data to and from the internet on behalf of the antivirus program. Some malware variants are known to disguise themselves as Ekrn.exe, and these pose a threat to your computer.     Open Windows Explorer by pressing the Windows key and "E" at the same time. The Windows key can be found between the Crtl and Alt keys on your keyboard.

    Go to "C:\Windows" and "C:\windows\system32folder," and delete all Ekrn.exe files.

    Run a complete virus scan by opening your antivirus program and selecting "Scan All Local Drives."

    Select "Delete or Clean Infected Files," and reboot. The infected Ekrn.exe file should now be removed from the computer.
