How to Remove the Headlamp Assembly on a Toyota Celica

Updated April 17, 2017

Over time, the headlamps on your Toyota Celica will grow dull or the bulbs will burn out. The headlamp assembly could also be damaged. You should get into the habit of checking your headlamps regularly to make sure that your Celica is visible at night and when driving in fog, rain and snow. Most often, a bulb change is all you need, but sometimes you will need to remove the entire headlamp assembly. This is more challenging than replacing a bulb, but it's still something that you can do at home with just a few tools.

Lift the hood of your Celica and prop it open.

Unbolt the bumper using the socket set.

Put on the rubber gloves. Locate the headlamp assembly. Detach the wiring harness by pushing down on the tabs on the electrical connectors behind the bulbs.

Disconnect the electrical connectors from the low and high beams, the turn signal and the parking lights.

Detach the three bolts that hold the headlamp assembly in place, using the 10-mm socket. The first bolt is in the front of the lamp, the second is behind the lamp, and the final bolt is on the side of the inner bumper. Pull the assembly back and lift it up to remove it.

Always wear gloves to protect halogen bulbs from the natural oils on your skin whenever you are working around them.
