Making paper sailor hats is a creative and simple project for children. Children love playing pirates and letting their imaginations run wild. But these paper sailor hats aren't just for kids. No one's too old to play a little dress-up. Grab a section of your daily newspaper, and you will have all the supplies you need to make your own adult-sized paper sailor hat. These hats can be worn for fun or add a comical touch to a sailor or pirate costume.
Unfold a newspaper and lay out an entire sheet.
Fold down the top of the newspaper, cutting it in half horizontally.
Fold down the left corner. Don't fold it too far to the right. There should be a few inches between the fold and the middle crease in the newspaper.
Fold down the right corner the same way, leaving approximately 4 inches in between the folds.
Fold the bottom up over the two folds. This will keep the hat from falling apart.
Turn the hat over and fold the back up to match the front.
Open the bottom. The newspaper is now a hat. Your head will fit into the bottom.
You can staple and tape the folds together to make the hat more secure.
