How to Create a New Email Address

Updated March 23, 2017

E-mail is a major form of communication for people all over the world. It's a way to stay in touch with friends and family, without having to worry about their availability. While not everyone has an e-mail address, they are fairly easy to come by.

Go to a free Internet e-mail provider's home page, such as Google or Yahoo.

Click once on the "mail" link on the home page.

Click once on the "sign up" link. Some providers might have this link directly on the home page, in which case you could skip step 2.

Fill out the appropriate information on the account page. The "username" or "login name" will end up being your address, so this will be the field where you enter your desired e-mail address. Usually, there will be a "check availability" button. Click once on this button to see if the email address you want is still available from the provider. If it's already taken, then you will either have to adjust it or use another provider.

Notify your friends and family of your new e-mail address.

Typically you can't change an existing e-mail address, you have to set up a whole new address.
