Things you need
- Duct tape
- Empty 4.5 litre milk container
- Red feathers or thread
Wash out the empty milk container thoroughly and cut off the top. Place the milk carton on your head and trace a pattern to cut, keeping in mind that a Roman helmet has a main body that covers the head and the sides of the face.
Cut out the body of a Roman helmet with the scissors, using the model you just traced. Try it on a few times to make sure it fits.
Cut a 20 cm to 30 cm long strip of cardboard to 5 cm wide, and begin gluing red feathers into it. If it's corrugated cardboard, you can poke the stems of the feathers between the ripples. This feathered mane is a typical representation of a Roman soldier.
Sketch what you'd like your front piece to look like. You don't have to wear it in front of your face; you can attach it to the forehead of your mask. A real Roman soldier, however, would be able to move the piece down in front of the face during battle.
Trace the front piece of your Roman helmet on to cardboard and cut it out. Roll the cardboard to bend it into a curve that fits your head.
Stick the mane and the front piece to your Roman helmet with duct tape. A real Roman helmet would be made from copper or iron. If you don't like the look of the duct tape, spray paint your Roman mask gold or silver to match your Roman costume.
