Adobe Flash is a multimedia application that you can use to build dynamic projects, such as animated banners. Animated Web banners are used to grab a reader's attention to an event or element of data. You can use Flash to create a custom banner for your website.

Skill level:

  1. 1

    Click "File," then click "New" to create a new file.

  2. 2

    Press Ctrl and F3 to open the Properties panel. Click the "Size" button and set the project size to 500 pixels x 125 pixels. Click "OK." Set the Frame rate value at 30. Select the "Background" button to change the background colour to dark green.

  3. 3

    Press Ctrl and S to save the file as flashbanner.fla.

  4. 4

    Select the Text tool from the Tools panel and type your banner text. For example, type "It's Easy to be Green." Change the text colour to white. Change the typeface to a style that fits with the design.

  5. 5

    Drag the text to the left side, beyond the stage.

  6. 6

    Click frame 90 in the timeline and press F6 to create a keyframe. Drag the text in frame 90 to the middle of the stage. Click frame 1. Change the Tween drop-down option to "Motion."

  7. 7

    Press Ctrl and Enter to generate and launch the "SWF" file for testing. The text moves from the left of the screen into view and stops in the centre of the banner.

  8. 8

    Insert the SWF file in your Web page using the following code, replacing the size and name values with your own:

    <OBJECT classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase=",0,0,0" WIDTH="500" HEIGHT="125" id=" flashbanner " ALIGN="left">

    <PARAM NAME=movie VALUE=" flashbanner.swf">

    <PARAM NAME=quality VALUE=high>

    <PARAM NAME=bgcolor VALUE=#0000FF>

    <EMBED src=" flashbanner.swf" quality=high bgcolor=#0000FF WIDTH="500" HEIGHT="125" NAME=" flashbanner " ALIGN="left" TYPE="application/x-shockwave-flash" PLUGINSPAGE=""></EMBED>

    Save the code for you page, then check it in a Web browser to ensure that the Flash animation works properly.
