Removing your apps may restore your status bar. (Justin Sullivan/Getty Images News/Getty Images)

The owners of iPhones sometimes report that their status bar disappears. There are two possible reasons for this problem. One is that a downloaded app altered the setting of the home screen during installation; another is that someone may have tampered with your phone. If you try restoring the phone’s home screen settings and the status bar still keeps disappearing, try removing the most recently installed apps. If this doesn’t work, you may need to uninstall all your downloaded apps.

  1. 1

Tap “Settings” on your phone's home screen, select “General” and then “Reset.” In the “Reset” menu, select “Reset home screen layout” and then “Reset home screen.” If your status bar hasn’t returned, turn your phone off, wait for 10 seconds, and then turn it back on again. If this doesn't work, you'll need to try deleting your most recently installed apps.

  2. 2

Back up your data in iTunes. Open iTunes on your computer and connect your iPhone via the supplied USB cable. Once iTunes recognises the phone, it will appear in the “Devices” list in the left panel of the iTunes window. Right-click while hovering over the "iPhone" entry in iTunes and select “Back up” from the pop-up menu.

  3. 3

Prevent any application you want to delete from re-installing itself before you remove it. Click "iPhone" in the "Devices" panel and select the “Apps” tab. Scroll to the bottom of the "Apps" list and uncheck the “Automatically sync new apps” checkbox. Click “Apply” to save the changes. Unplug your phone from the computer.

  4. 4

Check the settings of your iPhone to make sure you're not blocked from deleting apps. Tap on the “Settings” icon, select “General” and then “Restrictions.” You'll need to enter your four digit PIN. Under “Allow,” toggle the “Deleting apps” switch to “On.”

  5. 5

Go to the home screen of your iPhone and look for the app you want to uninstall. Hold your finger on its icon until it vibrates and tap the “X” that appears in its top left-hand corner. A warning message will appear. Tap the “Delete” button to remove the app.

  6. 6

Turn your iPhone off, wait for 10 seconds, then turn it back on again. This will clear any residual processes out of its memory.

  7. 7

Remove your other downloaded apps, starting with the most recently installed, if your status bar is still missing. You can reinstall all your apps by checking the “Automatically sync new apps” tickbox in iTunes.
