Released in 2009, the Palm Pre is a smartphone from Palm (later HP) that runs the Linux-based operating system WebOS. Like many smartphones, you can enable a PIN or password to lock your device and prevent anyone else from accessing your information. However, if you forget the password, you will need to perform a hard reset to be able to access your device again.
There are three ways to reset a Pre, depending on whether you can access the phone settings or not.

Open "Device Info" on your phone. Look for "Reset Options" and and press it.
Tap "Full Erase" twice. This will delete all personal information, apps, and USB drive data.
Enter your WebOS Account email address when prompted to restore your account on the device. You will then have to enter your password.
Hard reset through Device Info
Make sure your Palm Pre has an active data connection, either through your mobile network or WiFi. Look for a data network icon in the title bar to confirm this.
Log into "Manage My Device" (see Resources). You will have to go to this website on your computer, rather than on the Palm. You will need your Palm or HP WebOS account profile and password.
Click "Device Options." Look for an option called "I Lost My Phone" and click on that. Click "Erase Device." Type the displayed security text into the box next to "Type Text You See In The Box To The Left"
Click "Erase Device" again. Click "Yes" to confirm the erase, which may take several hours to complete. Optionally, select "Back Up Data Before Erase" to back up your profile information. Follow the on-screen prompts and re-enter your profile email address and password to restore your profile data.
Remote hard reset
Access the "WebOS Doctor" website (see Resources) and click the Pre under "Select Your Device." Enter the serial number for your Pre in the box. You can find the serial number on the back of your Palm Pre beneath the battery, next to "S/N." Click "Serial Number," and then "Continue."
Check the box that appears to see if you have Java installed. Your browser may block Java by default, so click "Allow" or "Run This Time" to enable the plugin.
Click "Continue" when the Java version number appears. If you see anything else, check the Java plugin is properly installed on your computer. Click "Download WebOS Doctor" to download the file and run it on your computer.
Connect your Pre to your computer with the USB cable when prompted. Click "Next" to reset your device. Make sure you don't disconnect your Pre from the computer while WebOS Doctor is resetting the device. Click "Done" when the "Reset Complete" screen appears.
Enter your profile email address and password on your Pre. This should restore your profile data to your device.
