Headaches, dizziness and disorientation can be painful, frustrating and even scary. They can be due to many causes. Sometimes a relaxing bath or massage can be an easy fix. In other instances, headaches, dizziness and disorientation can indicate a more serious condition.

Headaches are defined as having pain in the head or upper neck region. There are many types and causes of headaches. Stress, sinus problems and even menstruation can trigger headaches. Sometimes an illness, such as a bacterial or viral infection, can cause headaches.

Dizziness (lightheadedness) has different causes. Causes of dizziness include vertigo (spinning sensations) due to inner ear problems, side effects of medications or standing up too quickly.

Disorientation is when a person feels unsure of his location. Low blood sugar, stress and anxiety, and brain conditions like stroke, tumours and dementia can lead to disorientation.

In order for a correct diagnosis to be made, a detailed and accurate patient history must be given to the patient's doctor.

It is important to seek medical attention if these symptoms are associated with seizures, stiff neck, trauma or a fall, or if there are changes in speech, vision or behaviour.
