Unusual Save the Date Ideas

Many people plan their summers far in advance; because of this, it is often smart to send out save-the-date cards for your wedding. You need to make people aware that you are getting married in a few months and you want them to attend. It also gives out-of-town guests a chance to purchase plane tickets or make other plans. Make your save-the-date cards fun and interesting to catch the attention of friends and family.

Game Announcements

If you and your fiancée love to play board or card games, send out save-the-date cards reflecting that passion. Glue Scrabble pieces to card stock spelling out all the details of the wedding day, including the time, date and place. Create your own crossword puzzle. Come up with clues that will answer the time, date and place. Once the entire crossword puzzle is complete, the guests will have everything they need to know about the wedding.

Photo Cards

Print up postcards with your pictures and information on it. You can simply have words typed over the picture to get the information across, or tell it in the picture. Write the info in the sand at the beach and take a photo. Hold a sign with the information and have someone else take the photo. Use these photos as your postcard. Come up with something that fits your wedding theme and your personality to really catch your guests' interest.

Message in a Bottle

If you are having a beach or destination wedding, play up that fact. Write the save-the-date information on a piece of tea-stained parchment paper. Make it look old and beat up. Purchase old-fashioned bottles at the store, or use old wine bottles with the labels taken off. Roll the parchment up and put it in the bottle. Place the cork in the bottle and send it off to the guests.

Cookies or Candies

Bake large cookies and frost them with the time, date and place of the wedding. These will need to be large cookies with very precise frosting techniques. Get a baker to do it if you can't make the writing clear enough. Purchase large lollipops for each guest. Write little tags with the wedding information and place them on the lollipop sticks. This works well if you are having a very fun wedding theme.
