Bleaching your hair can be damaging and make hair hard to manage. Even when freshly bleached hair is wet, it can feel dry and knotted. It can be tempting to condition and comb through your hair before applying a toner.
Conditioner Seals the Cuticle
In order for the toner to penetrate the hair shaft and alter the colour of freshly bleached hair, the cuticle should be rough and open to accept the colour deposited. Conditioner, however, smooths and seals the cuticle and the hair becomes impenetrable to the toner colour.
After bleaching, apply a toner before conditioning. Conditioning before toning can affect the colour absorption and lead to undesired results. Applying conditioner after applying and rinsing toner will seal in your desired colour tone.
