The Canon PIXMA MP198 is an all-in-one inkjet printer from the PIXMA MP190 family. Like any printer, it comes with its fair share of potential errors, such as jammed paper trays, feed-mechanism malfunctions, and improperly functioning sensors. These errors are identified by error codes such as E, 2; E, 3; and E, 5. The latter, error 5, means that the printer cannot recognise the ink cartridge. To fix/reset this error, follow the steps below.

Flip open the scanning unit, or cover, and make certain that the ink cartridges have been properly installed. Also ensure that they are compatible with the printer. The Canon PIXMA MP198 only works with Canon PG-30, CL-31, PG-40, and CL-41 ink cartridges.
Reset the printer. First enter the service mode by pressing the 'Menu,' 'Copy,' 'Scan,' 'Copy,' and 'Copy' buttons in that exact order. Then select 'Test Mode,' 'Printer Test Test Mode,' and 'EEPROM Clear.' Now hit the 0 button and then select 'Ink Count,' and then press the 'Set' button. To finish the reset, click the 'stop' button and then turn the printer off and then back on.

- Now hit the 0 button and then select 'Ink Count,' and then press the 'Set' button.
