How to Block Spankwire

Updated April 17, 2017

If you have a computer that you share with teenagers or children, you know how hard it can be to prevent them from seeing inappropriate content. Spankwire is a website that provides pornography and can be accessed from any Internet browser. You can tell your children not to access Spankwire, but there is a way to block it completely so they will not be able to go to the website. To block the site from being accessed from any web browser on a Windows operating system, you will need to edit one file on your computer.

  1. Press the "Power" button on your computer and wait for the operating system to load. Do not attempt to edit or open any files on your computer until the operating system is ready to use. When it is, click on the "Start" button to open the menu and hover over the "All Programs" option. Hover over the "Accessories" option and click "Command Prompt."

  2. Wait for the prompt to open. This will be a MS DOS style program that will allow you to open and edit various files. Using the keyboard, type in the command "notepad C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc/hosts" and press the "Enter" button. A notepad document will open up showing you the contents of your "Host" file, which is a file that stores information on how to access websites and networks.

  3. Scroll through your host file to find the line that reads " localhost" and click below it. Type in "" with the keyboard followed by "spankwire.com" and press enter to go to the next line. Repeat the process, typing the same information except include www. before spankwire.com. This will leave you with two lines reading " spankwire.com" and " www.spankwire.com."

  4. Click on the "File" menu option at the top of the notepad document. Click on the "Save" option that appears in this drop down menu. It is now safe to close the notepad document and the Command Prompt windows. Now, anytime anyone types in spankwire.com or www.spankwire.com into a browser window, the site will be blocked.
