If you are a fan of the Harry Potter books, but haven't received your letter from "Hogwarts" yet, then you should consider making your own Hogwarts crest badge. You will need the correct proportions and a reference to look at as you design the badge, as well as a few materials that you can find at any craft store. You can also size the badge to the dimensions that you need so that you can put it where you want.
Go to the link in Resource 1 and download the stencil of the shapes for the Hogwarts crest. Open the file on your computer, right click on it and select "Print Setup." Size the image to how large you want it to be by dragging the corners of the stencil across the canvas. Print the stencil.
Lay the stencil down on a piece of gold felt, measure about 1/8 to 1/4 inch around the outside edge and trace around the stencil at this measurement with a piece of sewing chalk. Cut the felt with scissors at the line you just traced.
Cut the four sections of the stencil out with scissors. Trace the upper-left section on a piece of red felt with sewing chalk and trace the upper-right section on a piece of dark green felt. Trace the lower-left section on a piece of yellow felt and the lower-right section on a piece of blue felt. Cut out the four pieces of felt.
Glue the four sections in place with a thin layer of fabric glue on the backs of the sections. Wait three to four hours for the glue to dry completely.
Look at the picture of the Hogwarts badge in Resource 2 and use it as a reference to draw the shape in the middle for the "H", on a piece of gold felt. Cut out the shape and glue it to the centre of the crest with the fabric glue.
Paint the details on the crest, like the "H" in the middle and the animals on each section with paint brushes and liquid fabric paint (not the puffy kind). Give the paint about four hours to dry before handling your Hogwarts badge.
