How to convert a slot machine from token to coin

Updated April 17, 2017

Slot machines are generally recognised as the most popular of the electronic casino games. In fact, they've become so popular that many people now own their own models of token "skill-stop" machines. In-home machines may need to be converted to running on quarters if tokens are unavailable. This process is for types of machines designated by the description "universal" from the Pachislo company that, according to the company, are sold "only as toys for personal entertainment use, and not as gambling machines." Never tamper with or alter a commercial slot machine.

  1. Check to make sure you own a "universal" or azure Pachislo slot machine. The type should be included with your purchase paperwork or on the inside of the machine itself.

  2. Open up the front of the machine with your key. Look for a black box that serves as the coin mechanism.

  3. Find the plug closest to the right side of the black box. There should be about eight wires connected at this point by a plastic end piece. Disconnect the entire plug from the circuit board of the machine.

  4. Lift up the lever on the upper, left side of the black box. Remove the black box from the slot machine.

  5. Press in on both sides of the covered lower portion of the box and remove the cover. There should be a piece of metal toward the bottom of the coin mechanism that adjusts for the size of intake coins.

  6. Flip the box over and look for two screws with washers on either side of the metal. Loosen both of them and readjust them so that they sit in the middle of their respective slots, then tighten them back up.

  7. Test the coin mechanism by feeding several quarters into the front slot. You may need to adjust the placement of the screws until the quarter feeds properly and falls through rather than coming back out the front.

  8. Reassemble the machine by clicking the box back into place and reconnecting the plug. Use it as you normally would, except with quarters.

  9. Tip

Alternate types of slot machines require a different technique to convert to quarters.

Tampering with commercial slot machines is illegal and may result in your arrest and prosecution. Pachislo is created for home use only and should never be used for illegal gambling purposes.
