How to Connect a Sony HD Player to Netflix

Updated July 20, 2017

Several Sony HD devices, such as Blu-ray players and HDTVs, have the ability to connect to Netflix. Netflix is a subscription-based DVD-delivery service that also allows you to watch popular movies and TV shows by streaming them to a Netflix Ready Device (NRD).

In order to connect to Netflix on your Sony HD device, you must first register your HD player with both Netflix and the Sony Essentials service. Once you have registered, you can connect your Blu-ray player or HDTV to the Internet and begin streaming from your Netflix Instant Queue.

  1. Open a web browser on your computer and go to the Sony Essentials home page (see Resources).

  2. Click the "New to My Essentials?" link and click "OK" if you receive a message that says: "As part of the account creation process you will be redirected to the SonyStyle website. Please click OK to continue."

  3. Enter a valid e-mail address and choose a password. Type the password in both the "New Password" and "Confirm Password" boxes and click "Submit."

  4. Click "Return to Essentials" and select your device type from the drop-down menu.

  5. Click the "Where is this?" link next to the "Registration Code" field and follow the instructions to obtain a registration code for your device. You'll need this code later, so write it down.

  6. Enter your registration code and click "Continue."

  7. Open a web browser on your computer and sign in to Netflix (see Resources). If you don't have an account yet, click the "Not a member?" link to sign up.

  8. Select the "Instantly to your TV" link on the "Watch Instantly" tab.

  9. Type your device code in the box to "Connect your device to Netflix" and click "Activate Now."
