How to Use My iPhone With the Bose Companion 5

Updated July 20, 2017

The Bose Companion 5 is a popular computer speaker system. Unlike many computer speakers. However, the Bose Companion 5 connects to the computer through a USB cable rather than a traditional audio cable. Users who would like to connect their Apple iPhone to the Bose Companion 5 may be frustrated by this fact, because the connection is no longer as simple as inserting the speaker's audio wire into the headphone jack of the iPhone. Fortunately, Bose anticipated this need and provided an easy alternative.

  1. Power off your Bose Companion 5. For additional safety, disconnect the speakers from their power source.

  2. Locate the "Control pod" on your speaker system. The control pod is a short, black cylinder. It's the same device you use to adjust the volume on your Bose Companion 5 speakers.

  3. Insert one end of the 3.5mm audio cable into the "line in" socket on the control pod. It is located next to the control pod's headphone jack.

  4. Insert the other end of the 3.5mm audio cable into the headphone jack of your Apple iPhone.

  5. Turn on your Bose Companion 5 speakers and your iPhone. You can now play music and other sound directly from your iPhone through your computer speakers.

  6. Tip

If you do not have a 3.5mm audio cable, these can be purchased from any electronics retailer. An example cable from Amazon.com is linked below under "Resources."
