Swollen nasal passages can occur when you are experiencing a cold, flu or allergy attack. Your nose becomes congested and the nasal passages swell up because of excess mucus. Swollen nasal passages can make it hard to breathe and go to sleep at night. Fortunately, there are home remedies to treat swollen nasal passages.
Tree Tea Oil
Tree tea oil works well to combat nasal congestion. It has the ability to get rid of both bacteria and viruses--meaning it will kill whatever is causing the nasal passages to swell. Simply boil 236ml. of water and add in 4 drops of tree tea oil. Lean your head over this mixture and begin breathing the steam in. Do this every morning and evening until you are well.
Eucalyptus oil reduces the swelling in your nasal passages by working on the mucus membranes. It is an easy home remedy to use. Just place 4 drops of eucalyptus oil in 227gr. of boiling water. Lean your head over the steam and breathe it in. Continue doing this until there is no more steam left in the cup. Do this once when you wake up and once when you go to bed.
Salt Water Treatment
Salt water will work to get rid of any mucus that is causing your nasal passages to swell. The best way to give yourself a saltwater treatment is to use a neti pot. Pour some lukewarm water in the neti pot and mix in 1 tsp of salt. Tilt your head to one side and pour the water in one of your nostrils. The water will come out the other nostril. Repeat this process with the second nostril. Do this twice per day until the nasal passages are no longer swollen.
